Hempstead, NY (Sportsbooks) - New York Jets defensive tackle Josh Evans is expected to undergo surgery on his ailing back and could miss almost 12 weeks of the season. Evans originally suffered the injury during New York's final preseason contest in August. He played sparingly in the season-opening victory over Cincinnati but missed last Sunday's win versus San Diego. The 32-year-old Evans was sidelined 10 games in 2003 because of a substance- abuse suspension and lost his starting job to Dewayne Robertson. Evans, a six-year pro out of UAB, played in just six games last season and had 18 tackles and a sack.
