New York, NY (Sportsbooks) - New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, Atlanta Falcons safety Thomas DeCoud and Tampa Bay kick returner Sammie Stroughter have been named the NFC's top players for Week 6 of the NFL season. Brees completed 23-of-30 passes for 369 yards and four touchdowns on Sunday, guiding the Saints to a 48-27 win over the then-unbeaten New York Giants. New Orleans moved to 5-0 with the victory. The performance provided for a near-perfect passer rating of 156.8 as Brees picked up the offensive player of the week honor, his ninth weekly award as a Saint. DeCoud garnered the defensive player of the week award after recording two interceptions, the first of his two-year career, in Sunday's win over Chicago. It was the first multi-interception game by a Falcon since DeAngelo Hall accomplished the feat September 17, 2006. It is the first weekly honor of DeCoud's career. Stroughter was named the special teams player of the week for his performance in Sunday's loss to Carolina. He recorded a 97-yard kick return for a touchdown, while averaging 47.3 yards on three returns and adding three catches for 65 yards. It is the first weekly honor of the rookie's career. |
