Buenos Aires, Argentina (Sportsbooks) - Eduardo Romero, the reigning U.S. Senior Open champion, posted a three-under 68 on Friday to join Julio Zapata in a share of first after two rounds of the Argentine Masters.
Zapata, who carded a four-under 67, and Romero are knotted at six-under 136 at Olivos Golf Club.
Christoph Guenther (68), Stuart Anderson (69) and Josh McCumber (70) share third place at five-under 137.
Romero tallied five birdies on his opening nine, but bogeyed No. 10. He birdied the 12th, but bogeys at 14 and 16 derailed his chance at being an outright leader.
"I made two big mistakes, but the good thing is that there are two more rounds left to go," said Romero, an Argentina native. "I think I was a bit unlucky with the putter as I three-putted two greens. Anyway, another 68 looks good to me."
Zapata mixed six birdies and two bogeys on his round Friday.
"Just as I did yesterday, I played very steady," said Zapata, who plays on the European Tour. "With a course as dangerous as this one, I focused on keeping the ball in play and I did."
Former U.S. Open champion Angel Cabrera managed a three-under 68 on Friday and is tied for sixth place with Rodolfo Gonzalez, who shot a four-under 67 in round two, at minus-four.
Andres Romero, who won this year's PGA Tour stop in New Orleans, posted a three-under 68 and shares eighth with Cesar Monasterio, who carded a 67, at three-under 139.
Overnight leader Estanislao Goya struggled to a four-over 75 on Friday and fell into a tie for 10th place at minus-two.
The 36-hole cut fell at five-over 147.
