Uniondale, NY (Sportsbooks) - Freddy Meyer finished with a pair of goals and an assist, as the New York Islanders held on for a 4-2 win over the Ottawa Senators at Nassau Coliseum.

Andy Hilbert and Trent Hunter each had a goal and an assist for the Islanders, who snapped a two-game slide. Joey MacDonald stopped 19 shots in the win for New York, which has won all three contests against Ottawa so far this season.

Dany Heatley and Daniel Alfredsson both lit the lamp and assisted on a goal for the Senators, whose two-game win streak was stopped. Alex Auld allowed three goals on 24 shots for Ottawa, which has lost seven of nine overall.

"We're going to have to get back to work because it's tough now, we've been climbing and playing pretty good," Alfredsson said. "But we can't afford to have any more slides here. We have to keep on getting points."

Heatley opened the scoring at 7:32 of the first period, but the Islanders came back with three straight goals to assume the lead.

Hilbert evened the game a little more than five minutes after Heatley's goal, and with just 35 seconds left in the second frame, Meyer got the first of his goals. Then, just under two minutes into the final period, he blasted the puck from the point past Auld to make it a 3-1 game.

"The first one (I) was just driving hard to the net and the puck bounced off a kneepad and right on my tape," Meyer said of his first goal. "I did whatever I could to put it over the goalie. The second one I had a little separation at the blue line, I took a shot as hard as I could and it went in."

Alfredsson got Ottawa back within a goal with his sixth tally of the season, coming just past the eight-minute mark of the third.

The Senators had several decent chances for a goal down the stretch, and emptied the net with under a minute to play. But Hunter grabbed a loose puck and backhanded a goal in net from outside the blue line to seal the Islanders victory.
