Irving, TX (Sportsbooks) - Dallas Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips said Wednesday at his press conference he will take a more active role in the team's defense. The Cowboys started the season with three consecutive wins but have lost two in a row, including last Sunday's 34-14 loss to St. Louis. Phillips stopped short of saying he would take over the defensive play-calling from coordinator Brian Stewart, adding, "I'm not going to go into all that." However, he did say he would be more proactive in the club's defensive preparations. "I'd say more active, yes," Phillips said. "I've been with the defense, but I'm going to concentrate more, you could say." Phillips also avoided the issue of releasing Stewart of his responsibilities completely. "We're going to work together to get it done," Phillips said. The 34 points the Cowboys allowed on Sunday were the second-most given up this season. Dallas beat Philadelphia, 41-37, in the second week of the season.
