Toronto, ON (Sportsbooks) - Wes Heffernan and Tom Stankowski both shot five-under 67 Saturday to move into a share of the lead after the third round of the Canadian Tour Championship.
Heffernan and Stankowski are tied at 13-under-par 203, one shot off the tournament's 54-hole scoring record. Heffernan collected his fourth Canadian Tour win earlier this year, while Stankowski is going for his first tour win.
Daniel Im, who owned at least a share of the lead after the first two rounds, managed an even-par 72 and is alone in third at minus-12. Im, a two-time winner this year, is second on the Canadian Tour money list.
John Ellis, the tour's leading money winner and a three-time winner this year, is tied for fourth at 11-under-par 205 after shooting 67. Graham DeLaet carded a 71 and is tied with Ellis at minus-11.
After the completion of the championship, the top two players on the Order of Merit will receive an exemption into the second stage of the PGA Tour National Qualifying School.
Heffernan opened with a birdie on the first, but stumbled to bogeys at three and four to slip to seven-under. He recovered one of those shots with a birdie at the par-three sixth.
The 31-year-old ran off three straight birdies from the ninth to get to 11- under. After a bogey on 12, Heffernan birdied three of the last four holes to gain his share of the 54-hole lead.
Stankowski had a steady start with birdies on one and seven to go with seven pars on the front nine. Around the turn, he birdied four of five holes from the 10th to take the lead at 14-under. However, he tripped to a bogey on the par-three 16th to share the lead with Heffernan.
Mike Grob (69) and ATB Financial Classic winner Dustin Risdon (70) share sixth place at eight-under-par 208, while Steve Friesen (65) and Dale Vallely (70) are one shot further back at minus-seven.
