Raleigh, NC (Sportsbooks) - J.J. Redick scored a game-high 21 points to lead Duke to a 90-62 dismantling of Seton Hall in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at the RBC Center.
Luol Deng added 20 points and seven rebounds for the Blue Devils (29-5), who will face the winner of the Illinois/Cincinnati matchup on Friday. Duke, the No. 1 seed in the Atlanta bracket, improved to 8-2 in its last 10 games.
Shelden Williams finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds in the win, as the Blue Devils reached the Sweet 16 for the seventh consecutive season.
"If I could start on a good rhythm, usually I'm successful for the rest of the game," Redick said. "I'm a rhythm player."
John Allen and Kelly Whitney both had 14 points for Seton Hall. J.R. Morris added 12 for the Pirates (21-10), who couldn't carry the momentum from their first-round win over Arizona.
Redick made a long three-pointer from the right wing to give the Blue Devils a 9-5 lead. After returning from the bench with a twisted ankle, Redick was fouled beyond the arc and made all three free throws for a 14-9 edge.
Seton Hall pulled within three at 16-13, but Duke pulled away and grabbed a 29-17 advantage after Deng's three-point play with 9:19 left.
Duke continued to run Seton Hall off the court and extended its lead to 37-19 on a Williams jam with less than five minutes to go. The Pirates battled their way back into the game with a 9-0 run, culminated by a Morris three, to pull within 37-28.
Redick stopped the bleeding with a three-pointer and Deng followed with a basket for a 42-28 halftime lead. Redick led all scorers with 17 points, while Morris paced Seton Hall with 10 at the break. Duke shot 59 percent after 20 minutes of play compared to Seton Hall's 37 percent.
Deng made a pair of foul shots midway through the second half and Duke had a 68-46 advantage. Most of the second stanza dragged with the Blue Devils leading by an 82-59 score after four straight free throws by Daniel Ewing.
"It was a tough game despite the score," Ewing said after the game.
Duke then emptied its bench for garbage time and the Pirates never threatened the rest of the way.
Duke, which is making its ninth straight NCAA appearance and the 20th in the last 21 years, is 6-1 all-time versus Seton Hall, including wins in the last two encounters.
