San Diego, CA (Sportsbooks) - The San Diego Padres avoided arbitration and signed shortstop Khalil Greene to a two-year, $11 million contract, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. The agreement could pay the 28-year-old Greene even more through performance bonuses. Greene was recently named the Padres' Most Valuable Player for the 2007 season, when he hit .254 with 27 home runs and 97 runs batted in. He also had the highest fielding percentage (.984) among National League shortstops who played in 108 or more games last year.
