Munich, Germany (Sportsbooks) - UEFA Cup favorite Bayern Munich was drawn against Aberdeen for the knockout round of 32 on Friday.
Bayern, which leads the Bundesliga at the winter break, won the last UEFA Cup it played in in 1996. It closed the group stage Wednesday with a 6-0 win over Aris Thessaloniki, thanks to four goals from Luca Toni.
Aberdeen also ended group play with a convincing win, 4-0 over FC Copenhagen, to advance to the knockout round for the first time since 1986.
"We'll have to be fully prepared for the physical challenge against the Scots. But I have no doubt we'll go through," Bayern coach Omar Hitzfield said.
The first legs of the round of 32, two-game, aggregate series are Feb. 13-14, and the second legs are Feb. 21.
Six other former champions are also in the knockout stages, and two of them - Turkey's Galatasaray and Bayer Leverkusen - will play in the round of 32.
Galatasaray won in 2000 and is the most recent winner in this year's knockout stage. Bayer won in 1988.
Belgium's Anderlecht (1983 winner) plays Bordeaux, PSV (1978) plays Sweden's Helsingborg and two-time winner Tottenham (1972, '84) plays Czech Republic's Slavia Prague.
The other round of 32 games are: AEK Athens vs. Getafe; Bolton vs. Atletico Madrid; Russia's Zenit St. Petersburg vs. Villarreal; Norway's Brann vs. Everton; Switzlerand's FC Zurich vs. Hamburg; Rangers vs. Greece's Panathinaikos; Norway's Rosenborg vs. Fiorentina; Sporting Lisbon vs. Switzerland's Basle; Werder Bremen vs. Braga; Benfica vs. Nurnberg; and Marseille vs. Spartak Moscow.
Rangers and Werder Bremen - two teams that joined the UEFA Cup after finishing third in their groups in the Champions League - could play in the round of 16 if both advance.
