Columbus, OH (Sportsbooks) - The Columbus Blue Jackets placed defenseman Adam Foote on injured reserve retroactive to November 23 due to a strained groin and claimed defenseman Ron Hainsey off waivers from Montreal.

Foote, who suffered the injury in the Blue Jackets' 4-2 loss against Nashville, is listed as day-to-day. He has scored three goals and tallied two assists this season.

Hainsey, 24, has played in 32 NHL games in his career and has tallied a goal and an assist after the Canadiens chose him with their first pick, 13th overall, in the 2000 NHL entry draft.

This season, however, Hainsey is tied for third among defensemen with three goals and 14 assists for 17 points for Hamilton of the American Hockey League.

Hainsey is expected to be in uniform for the Blue Jackets' game in Minnesota on Wednesday.
