(.com) - Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman has agreed to a new contract.

"New contract signed! Great moment for my family & foundation," Sherman wrote on his Twitter account Wednesday.

Financial terms were not disclosed, but FOX Sports reports it is a four-year extension that will make Sherman the highest-paid cornerback in the league and will keep him under contract through the 2018 season. ESPN reports it to be worth $57.4 million with $40 million guaranteed.

Sherman was entering the final year of his rookie deal. He is considered one of the top cover corners in the NFL and last year helped the Seahawks to their first Super Bowl title.

The 26-year-old Stanford product had eight interceptions each of the last two seasons after picking off four passes as a rookie in 2011. He also made the game-sealing play in the end zone in the final seconds of the NFC Championship Game against San Francisco this past January, tipping a pass into the hands of teammate Malcolm Smith for an interception that sewed up a 23-17 victory.
