Berea, OH (.com) - The Cleveland Browns began remaking the franchise under new general manager Ray Farmer on Tuesday, crafting a pair of high-profile deals on the first day of free agency by agreeing to terms with veteran safety and Cleveland native Donte Whitner, as well as linebacker Karlos Dansby.

Whitner, a two-time former Pro Bowl selection, agreed to a four-year deal worth $28 million, according to NFL.com.

The hard-hitting Ohio State product started all but one game for the 49ers over the past three seasons and will be replacing T.J. Ward, who left Cleveland to sign with the Denver Broncos.

Dansby, meanwhile, agreed to a four-year, $24 million deal that includes $14 million guaranteed, according to multiple media sources.

The ex-Cardinals linebacker, who will turn 33 in November , had a big year in 2013, finishing with 122 tackles, 6 1/2 sacks and four interceptions.
