Nashville, TN (Sportsbooks) - Tennessee Titans guard Steve Hutchinson announced Tuesday he will retire after an outstanding 12-year career in which he earned All-Pro honors seven times.
Hutchinson, who had two seasons remaining on a three-year contract he signed with the Titans last March, declared his intentions on his Twitter account. "Retiring today after a great run in the NFL," he tweeted. "Want to thank the Seahawks, Vikings, TennesseeTitans and their fans for the opportunity." A first-round pick of Seattle in 2001, Hutchinson went to three Pro Bowls in five seasons with the Seahawks before signing a controversial seven-year contract with the Vikings prior to the 2006 campaign. The 35-year-old played in 89 of a possible 96 regular-season games during a successful six-year run in Minnesota, during which he garned All-Pro recognition four straight seasons from 2006-09. Hutchinson was released by the Vikings in a financially related move in March of 2012 and signed with the Titans shortly afterward. He started the first 12 games of last season before landing on injured reserve with a knee problem. The veteran lineman appeared in 169 regular-season contests -- all as a starter -- as well as eight postseason matchups over his NFL tenure. March 12, 2013, at 04:05 PM ET |
