East Rutherford, NJ (Sportsbooks) - The New York Giants will give Terrell Thomas another chance to resurrect his injury-plagued career, as the team and the brittle cornerback agreed to a reworked contract on Monday.
Financial terms were not disclosed. Thomas, who hasn't played a game in either of the last two seasons after suffering a pair of ACL tears to his right knee, was due to a receive a $6 million option bonus in the spring as part of a four-year, $28.4 million contract he signed with the Giants last March. The five-year veteran had 10 interceptions while starting 31 of a possible 32 games for New York over the 2009 and 2010 seasons, but missed all of the Giants' Super Bowl XLVI-winning campaign of 2011 after injuring his knee in a preseason contest that August. Thomas re-tore the ACL during a training-camp practice last July and spent the entire year on injured reserve. "I'm blessed and happy to have another opportunity to play football, especially with such a loyal organization, the one I started my career with," said Thomas, a second-round pick of the Giants in the 2008 draft. "For them to give me another opportunity to prove myself, I feel very blessed." During his three healthy seasons with New York, Thomas has compiled 231 tackles, 11 interceptions and 38 passes defensed over a total of 44 games. February 11, 2013, at 04:58 PM ET |
