Harrisburg, PA (Sportsbooks) - Hall of Fame driver John Campbell has once again been recognized for contributions to harness racing. The sport's all-time leading money earner has received the Stan Bergstein-Proximity Award.

Campbell is being recognized with the Stan Bergstein-Proximity Award because of his ability to promote the sport of harness racing, especially through his excellent relationship with the media.

"It's certainly an honor and if you look at the past winners of this, it's an elite group to be part of and that's something I'm very proud of," Campbell said in a statement. "To be named in the first year it's also named the Bergstein Award is something very special to me.

"Stan was not only a very good friend of mine but someone I respected immensely for his passion, knowledge and everything he's done and meant to the sport over the past 50 years. That makes it extra special for me, the fact that it's associated with Stan."

Bergstein passed away in November 2011 at the age of 87. He was voted into Harness Racing's Living Hall of Fame in 1987. He became executive vice- president of Harness Tracks of America in 1961 and in the late 1960's joined the U.S. Trotting Association as vice president. Bergstein may be best known as a prolific writer on the standardbred industry.
