| It was revealed shortly before the start of Spring Training that Rodriguez had tested positive for steroids as part of an "anonymous" test in 2003. Rodriguez later revealed that he naively took performance-enhancing drugs from 2001-03 while with the Texas Rangers. The three-time MVP never really fessed up to anything, as he put the blame on others, in turn drawing criticism from just about everyone. Then, just as the steroid smoke started to clear, the highest-paid player in the history of the game found out |

| Surprise, AZ (Sportsbooks) - The Texas Rangers placed outfielder Frank Catalanotto on irrevocable release waivers for the purpose of giving him his unconditional release, clearing the way for Andruw Jones to make the team's roster for the regular season. If no team claims Catalanotto on waivers, he will become a free agent effective on Monday. The 34-year-old Catalanotto played with the Rangers for three seasons from 2000-02 and then rejoined them as a free agent in November of 2006. He has a career .292 |

Speaking of Rodriguez, he admitted to using performance enhancing drugs this offseason, stating his cousin provided steroids for him while he was with the Texas Rangers from 2001-03. And by the way, the Yankees are entering a new building this season, as they will move across the street to a brand new state-of-the-art facility. Just another typical offseason in the Bronx. Kemp is blossoming into one of the best young outfielders in the game and won't have to worry about sharing time with Andruw Jones, who was released in the offseason and later picked up by the Texas Rangers. Juan Pierre will make some starts in center for Kemp and has great speed in the field. Pierre, a terror on the base paths, is a contact hitter and batted .283 with 28 runs batted in and 44 runs scored. He also had 40 stolen bases and has swiped 40 |

By season's end, there were 21 games separating the Angels and the second- place Texas Rangers. Naturally, many wondered how that would affect the team come playoff time, given the Spring Training-like atmosphere over the final two months of the regular season. And naturally, it affected them greatly. In what has become an all-too-familiar po |

| Philadelphia, PA (Sportsbooks) - The good news for the 2008 Texas Rangers was that they led the majors with 901 runs scored. However, the bad news was that they allowed 950. The even worse news, though, may be the fact that that trend figures to continue this season. Even with the pitching problems, Texas still finished above third place in the AL West for the first time since winning the division in 1999. However, it was second in the weak division at 79-83, but was still 21 games back of the Los Angele |
