Panthers ink Skip Hicks NFL Football 12/18/2002
Charlotte, NC (Sportsbooks) - The Carolina Panthers signed running back Skip Hicks on Wednesday. Terms of the contract were not released. Hicks has appeared in 38 games in four NFL seasons. He spent three seasons with Washington and one with the Tennessee Titans. He has rushed for 1,109 yards on 285 attempts and 13 touchdowns. He has also caught 22 passes for 160 yards. Hicks played in nine games for Tennessee in 2001 after being claimed off waivers prior to the start of the regular season. He averaged 6.1 yards per carry on 56 attempts. He rushed for 341 yards and one touchdown. This season, he attended training camp with the Titans, but was released in the preseason. Originally a third-round draft pick out of UCLA by Washington in 1998, Hicks set a Redskins rookie record with eight rushing touchdowns and registered a career-best 433 yards on 122 carries in nine games. To create a roster spot for Hicks, the Panthers placed running back Lamar Smith on injured reserve with a shoulder injury. Smith had been on a leave of absence since November 29 when he was charged with drunk driving.
McNair questionable for Monday NFL Football 12/14/2002
Nashville, TN (Sportsbooks) - Tennessee Titans quarterback Steve McNair didn't practice on Saturday and is listed as questionable for Monday's contest with New England. McNair is hampered with sore ribs and missed his third consecutive practice before a game. McNair did participate in limited on-field work on Friday. The Alcorn State product completed 72.4 percent of his passes with three touchdowns and no interceptions in the last two games, both Tennessee wins. McNair needs one touchdown pass to increase
Colts Team Report: Broken stride and injured pride NFL Football 12/13/2002
(Sportsbooks) - The Indianapolis Colts had their four-game winning streak snapped a week ago when they fell to the Tennessee Titans, 27-17, for the second time this season. The loss puts the Colts in a tough position with just three games left in the regular season. Indianapolis would lose the AFC South crown to Tennessee if the two teams finished with the same record because of the Titans' season sweep. Peyton Manning, who was playing in Tennessee for the first time since his college days, completed 26-of-
McNair in, Kearse out for Titans NFL Football 12/08/2002
Nashville, TN (Sportsbooks) - Tennessee Titans defensive end Jevon Kearse was inactive for the 12th straight week, but quarterback Steve McNair started and led Tennessee to a 27-17 win over Indianapolis. McNair threw for 237 yards and one touchdown despite missing practice all week. McNair completed 19-of-23 passes in the win and rushed for 49 yards on four carries, while playing through toe and rib injuries. Kearse is still recovering from a broken foot suffered in the Titans season opening win over Philad
Kearse practices, McNair doesn't for Titans NFL Football 12/06/2002
Nashville, TN (Sportsbooks) - Tennessee Titans defensive end Jevon Kearse practiced Friday in preparation for the Titans game against Indianapolis. Meanwhile, quarterback Steve McNair missed practice for a third straight day. Kearse, who is recovering from a broken foot, will again be a game-time decision. He has been listed as questionable for the past five weeks, but has not played. McNair, who is nursing toe and rib injuries, is still expected to start despite not practicing. Kearse broke his foot in the
Jags' Brunell to have MRI on finger NFL Football 12/02/2002
The availability of Brunell for next Sunday's showdown with the Cleveland Browns is uncertain. However, Jacksonville coach Tom Coughlin said Brunell played with an injured middle finger before. The Jaguars' (5-7) playoff hopes are so slim they would be mathematically eliminated if the Indianapolis Colts defeated the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. "What's the best chance you have to win? That's what you're going to base it on," Coughlin said. "We're working as hard as we've ever worked in our life to win a game."
Giants Team Report: Playoffs in doubt NFL Football 11/27/2002
lins threw for 214 yards and a score, but Texans kicker Kris Brown booted a 50-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to give Houston the victory. This week, the Giants, who trail the Philadelphia Eagles by two full games in the NFC East, welcome the Tennessee Titans to the Meadowlands. Still, last week's loss to an inferior foe seems to be sticking with the Giants. "It's not losing the game sometimes that ticks you off, it's the way you do it," said Michael Strahan said of his team's loss to the Texans. "There

ebacker John Fiala on injured reserve and signed free agent center Jeff Smith to a one-year contract on Tuesday. He started all 16 games at center for the Jaguars in 2001, and was in training camp with the Tennessee Titans in 2002 but was released.
