No Brees, little Chris Johnson in Saints, Titans NFL Football 09/01/2010

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Drew Brees will be watching from the sideline for the defending Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints.

Vince Young? He may play into the third quarter for the Tennessee Titans.

Welcome to the NFL's final preseason game where timing is everything, and the clock already has started ticking toward the Saints' regular season opener on Sept. 9. That's why New Orleans coach Sean Payton will be protecting his key starters by keeping them off the field Thursday night when the Saints (2-1

Titans DT Brown back at practice NFL Football 08/31/2010
Nashville, TN (Sportsbooks) - Tennessee Titans defensive tackle Tony Brown returned to practice on Tuesday after being removed from the physically unable to perform list. Brown, who had offseason surgery on his right knee, is expected to play in the team's preseason finale on Thursday. He's started at defensive tackle for the Titans in each of the last three years, missing only two regular-season games. The 29-year-old Brown registered 61 tackles and recorded a career-best five sacks in 15 starts during the
Titans focus on defense's play in Carolina loss NFL Football 08/29/2010

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - After another ugly preseason loss, the Tennessee Titans have this to console themselves: They didn't bother game-planning for this one.

Vince Young was sacked four times in two quarters and the Titans offense was unable to move the ball.

The best thing from the Titans' 15-7 loss at Carolina on Saturday night? Their defense.

A woeful unit in 2009 gave up an average of 25.1 points, but showed plenty of promise Saturday with top draft pick Derrick Morgan finally making his NFL debu

xtremes.

The defense, with numerous questions after an offseason roster overhaul, has been stellar. Who needs Julius Peppers? The Panthers have a whopping 18 sacks in three preseason games and have nearly completely shut down the New York Jets and Tennessee Titans the last two weeks.

The offense, meanwhile, has been downright unwatchable. Bring back Jake Delhomme? The Panthers still haven't scored an offensive touchdown and appear further away from identifying a No. 2 receiver than when training camp starte

There's certainly hope for Woods. Former UCO players Jermelle Cudjo and K.C. Asiodu are currently competing for spots on NFL rosters, and another victim of a weightlifting mishap - Stafon Johnson from Southern Cal - got to play for the Tennessee Titans this preseason before he was injured again.

``I think the kid has a lot of heart, a lot of grit. He's obviously got talent but injuries prevented him from being as good as he could be,'' said Gunter Brewer, Woods' former receivers coach at Oklahom

Top draft pick DE Morgan practices to wrap camp NFL Football 08/26/2010

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The Tennessee Titans are breaking training camp with a bit of good news. Their top pick actually practiced with the team for the first time since being drafted.

Defensive end Derrick Morgan missed most of the offseason, first with a strained hamstring, then a pulled left calf. The 16th pick overall then pulled that same calf early in his first practice of training camp on Aug. 1. He went out a little early for a few snaps against offensive linemen, then went through a session that w

Cardinals, Titans switch up with game, practice NFL Football 08/24/2010

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Well, this will either be very awkward or really exciting.

The Arizona Cardinals, eager to avoid a quick trip home on an already short week, are sticking around Music City for a joint practice with the Tennessee Titans.

Yes, against the very same team that just beat the Cardinals 24-10 Monday night in a preseason game.

Both teams rested Tuesday with the Cardinals getting the chance for sightseeing if they wanted. Then they hit the field together Wednesday afternoon at the Titans

NY trial date set for Titans backup QB Chris Simms Headlines 08/23/2010

NEW YORK (AP) - Tennessee Titans backup quarterback Chris Simms needs to add a new date to his 2010 season: an October trial in his New York City drugged-driving case.

Simms didn't make it to court Monday in the case. He's in the midst of Titans training in Nashville. A Manhattan judge agreed to excuse him but said he needs to be there Oct. 7 for a hearing and trial.

Police say Simms slurred his words and told them he'd been smoking marijuana before he was stopped at a checkpoint July 1. The 29-year-old
