Roethlisberger's absence not only Steelers issue Headlines 05/21/2010

PITTSBURGH (AP) -Their $102 million quarterback isn't around now, and he won't play at least until October. The Pittsburgh Steelers find themselves in an unprecedented situation, preparing for a season that will open without their suspended star.

If that was their only problem, perhaps the Steelers' offseason wouldn't seem so hectic, unsettled or disrupted, but it's not. Not even close.

There are numerous unsettled issues on both sides of the ball as the Steelers go through a month's worth of spring practic

Jets' Holmes says attendant caused flight flap NFL Football 05/20/2010

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) -New York Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes says a flight attendant might have singled him out last month because he was a former Pittsburgh Steelers player.

Holmes, speaking for the first time publicly about the incident, says Thursday he felt he was ``scrutinized just for who I am.''

He says the flight attendant was ``definitely trying to make a name for herself.''

Authorities at Pittsburgh International Airport filed an incident report after a flight attendant claimed Holmes fa

Life without Ben: Steelers search for temporary QB NFL Football 05/18/2010

PITTSBURGH (AP) -These might be the most-scrutinized May practices in Pittsburgh Steelers history.

The team resumed its voluntary offseason workouts on Tuesday without suspended quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. He remains banned from attending, and there is no indication when the NFL will allow him to participate.

Roethlisberger did join teammates at a charity golf tournament Monday in Canonsburg, Pa.

Trooper appeals ban on working for Roethlisberger NFL Football 05/12/2010

PITTSBURGH (AP) -A Pennsylvania state trooper who was barred from working for Ben Roethlisberger wants the agency to let him return to his part-time job as an assistant for the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback.

State police spokeswoman Lt. Myra Taylor said Wednesday that Trooper Ed Joyner has filed a union grievance, but he won't be allowed to work for Roethlisberger while it is pending.

The state police last month rescinded Joyner's permission to work for Roethlisberger as part of an investigation into Joyn

Steelers WR Sweed placed on IR NFL Football 05/11/2010
Pittsburgh, PA (Sportsbooks) - The Pittsburgh Steelers on Tuesday placed wide receiver Limas Sweed on injured reserve. Sweed had surgery last week to repair a damaged Achilles tendon. The injury occurred during the Steelers' recent minicamp. Pittsburgh's second-round draft pick in 2008, Sweed was waived by Pittsburgh on Monday. But since he cleared waivers, he will not count against the Steelers' 80-man roster limit. In 20 career games with Pittsburgh, Sweed has caught just seven passes. He will miss the entir
Steelers uncertain when Roethlisberger will return NFL Football 05/11/2010

PITTSBURGH (AP) -The Pittsburgh Steelers resume voluntary offseason workouts next week, but it's unclear whether suspended quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will be allowed to participate.

On April 21, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell suspended the two-time Super Bowl winner for the first six games of the season and also ordered him to undergo a behavioral evaluation following a March incident in which a 20-year-old college student accused him of sexual assault in Milledgeville, Ga. The case will not be prosecuted

Roethlisberger: Can't cut him, can't stand him Headlines 05/11/2010

PITTSBURGH (AP) -For all of his off-field problems, Ben Roethlisberger is still a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Numerous fans in a proud city where the quarterback's number 7 jerseys could be seen everywhere would like to know why. They've ripped ``Big Ben'' bumper stickers off their cars, tossed out their expensive replica jerseys and distanced themselves from one of the franchise's most successful players.

The reason why the Steelers have kept him despite his six-game suspension following a sexual as
