Florida has a game in hand to use against the idle Rangers today. The Penguins, meanwhile, are sixth in the East with 93 points on the year and are four points in front of the Rangers. Pittsburgh, which is also one behind Carolina, can clinch a playoff berth with a win today. Florida hurt its playoff chances when it had a three-game winning streak halted Friday by visiting Atlanta. Rich Peverley scored twice, including the game-winner in the third period, as the Thrashers continued their role of playoff spoiler with a 3-1 win against the Panthers. Gregory Campbell logged the lone score for Florida, which was seeking a season-high fourth win in a row. Craig Anderson, who was in net for each of the team's last three victories, surrendered three goals on 32 shots in the loss. Florida is 1-1 so far on a three-game homestand that is coming to a close today. The Panthers are 20-12-7 as the host club this season. The Penguins were in action Saturday at Carolina and dropped an overtime decision to the sizzling Hurricanes, who won their eighth straight contest. Anton Babchuk's point blast 1:11 into OT lifted Carolina over Pittsburgh, 3-2, and clinched a playoff spot for the Hurricanes.
