BOSTON (AP) -The New England Patriots have released linebacker Adalius Thomas, who signed as a high-profile free agent in 2007, but fell into disfavor with coach Bill Belichick last season. Thomas' release was confirmed Monday by a person familiar with the decision. The person requested anonymity because the release had not been formally announced by the team. The 32-year-old Thomas signed as an unrestricted free agent with the Patriots after seven seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, including two Pro Bowl ap |

| Foxboro, MA (Sportsbooks) - The New England Patriots have released linebacker Adalius Thomas. Thomas spent three seasons with the Patriots after playing his first seven NFL seasons with Baltimore. In 14 games last season, Thomas managed only 31 tackles and three sacks. He was a healthy scratch for two games, including a December 13 contest against Carolina when he spoke out publicly against Bill Belichick following the coach's decision to send him home earlier in the week after being late to a team meeting beca |

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) -Zoltan Mesko could have a locker near Tom Brady in the New England Patriots training camp. He expects to be starstruck even though he already has an edge on the star quarterback. The Patriots drafted the punter from Michigan in the fifth round on Saturday. A decade earlier, they chose Brady from the same school - in the sixth round. Mesko says he was thinking of that but didn't want to mention it. Anyway, he says, it's not how you start but how you finish. Mesko came to the United S |

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) -The New England Patriots' two newest defensive players have a headstart adjusting to life in the NFL. Jermaine Cunningham and Brandon Spikes starred under coach Urban Meyer at Florida. And Meyer is one of New England coach Bill Belichick's closest friends in college. Cunningham says Belichick would come down to talk to the Gators at least once a year. The Patriots grabbed Cunningham, a defensive lineman who could play outside linebacker, with the 21st pick of the second round on Fri |

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) -The New England Patriots stuck with their recent draft pattern - making deals and taking defensive backs. For the fourth straight year, the team in need of pass defense traded in the first round and picked a new secondary member, taking cornerback Devin McCourty of Rutgers with its opening selection on Thursday night. In 52 college games, McCourty had six interceptions, three fumble recoveries, 2 1/2 sacks and two forced fumbles. He also excelled on special teams with six blocked punt |
