HOUSTON (AP) -Ben Tate spent most of his first 11 practices with the Houston Texans sitting on the sideline with a hamstring injury. So on Tuesday in his first full practice since being drafted, the rookie running back could barely contain his excitement. The second-round pick from Auburn dashed on and off the field with a smile as he ran plays with the offense, including a few snaps with the first team. The Texans hope to use Tate as a complement to Steve Slaton as they try to improve a running game t |

HOUSTON (AP) -Houston Texans sixth-round draft pick Trindon Holliday walked into the locker room one day and found a plastic booster seat on his chair. Yes, the 5-foot-5, 165-pound Holliday is the NFL's shortest player and his teammates jab him with playful reminders almost daily. But he's also one of the league's fastest rookies and if he can master the art of receiving, Houston will add a unique and explosive weapon to its offense. ``It's a learning experience for me now, just trying to get these thi |

HOUSTON (AP) -Amobi Okoye got 5 1/2 sacks as a 20-year-old rookie in 2007. The Houston Texans' tackle figured he'd get at least that many each season after that. Two seasons and just 2 1/2 sacks later, Okoye realizes things don't come that easy in the NFL. ``Coming off of 5 1/2 sacks, I thought that I got those pretty easy my rookie year and I thought well, I can get more. It's not going to be hard,'' he said. ``So my dedication dipped down a little bit.'' Coach Gary Kubiak said the difficulty of lon |

HOUSTON (AP) -Tight end Owen Daniels has spent so many days alone in the training room that it's a treat to be on the field with his Houston Texans teammates. Even if he's just watching practice. Daniels led the team with five touchdowns and was a favorite target of Matt Schaub last season before he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in the eighth game. The Texans look for him to return to form this year, but first he has to finish recovering from surgery. He expects to be ready fo |

After that breakout performance, he's eager to see what he can do this year during a full season with the team. ``Oh yes, definitely,'' he said with a laugh. ``I'm definitely excited about that, but I just try to stay focused on everything we have to do. I just try to be a leader.'' Pollard was released by the Chiefs before last season despite starting all but one game |

HOUSTON (AP) -Matt Schaub led the NFL in yards passing last season to help the Houston Texans to their first winning record. But after failing to make the playoffs once again, Schaub and the Texans are looking at ways to improve. Schaub says the top task for the team is to become better closers. He laments several games last season where the Texans had a chance to win in the fourth quarter, but couldn't put games away. He says everyone needs to figure out a way to ``finish better.''
