pringfield, MA (Sportsbooks) - The American Hockey League's Springfield Falcons assigned forwards Adam Huxley and Ryan MacMurchy, and defensemen Rob Bina and Josef Hrabal to their ECHL affiliate, the Stockton Thunder. The Falcons, an affiliate of the National Hockey League's Edmonton Oilers, will play three games in three days this weekend. They head to Providence on Friday before hosting the Portland Pirates on Saturday in their home opener. The Falcons will conclude their weekend in Manchester on Sunday.
Ducks aim for win versus visiting Oilers NHL Hockey 10/15/2008
(Sportsbooks) - The Ducks are off to their worst start to a season in five years. Anaheim will try to halt a season-opening three-game losing streak tonight against the Edmonton Oilers at the Honda Center. The Ducks have opened the season with setbacks to San Jose, Phoenix, and most recently last night to the Los Angeles Kings. Anaheim has lost its first three games of the season for the first time since it dropped five in a row to start the 2003-04 campaign. Brian Sutherby and Todd Marchant scored the fir
Penner's tip-in late gives Edmonton win over Colorado NHL Hockey 10/13/2008
Edmonton, AB (Sportsbooks) - Dustin Penner's tip-in with 5.4 seconds remaining in regulation gave the Edmonton Oilers a 3-2 season-opening win over the Colorado Avalanche at Rexall Place. Penner gave Edmonton the lead early in the third in a two-goal performance while Shawn Horcoff notched a first period power-play tally for the Oilers, who got stellar goaltending from Mathieu Garon. The netminder was brilliant in stopping all but two of Colorado's 33 shots. Joe Sakic lit the lamp in the second and Milan H
Oilers kick off 30th season versus Avs NHL Hockey 10/12/2008
(Sportsbooks) - The last team to start the 2008-09 season, the Edmonton Oilers finally get things going tonight, as they begin their 30th season with a home test against the Colorado Avalanche at Rexall Place. Perhaps the schedule makers thought a few extra days would be beneficial for the Oilers, who saw veterans Shawn Horcoff, Sheldon Souray, captain Ethan Moreau and Fernando Pisani all miss significant time last year due to injury. However, with so many vets sidelined, Edmonton's young flyers emerged on
Edmonton places Potulny on waivers NHL Hockey 10/01/2008
Edmonton, AB (Sportsbooks) - The Edmonton Oilers placed forward Ryan Potulny on Wednesday. The Oilers acquired Potulny from Philadelphia on June 6 in exchange for defenseman Danny Syvret. The University of Minnesota product arrived in the NHL late in the 2005-2006 season after averaging better than a point per game in college, and has recorded seven goals and 14 points in 44 total games over the last three seasons with the Flyers. Philadelphia's third-round pick in the 2003 draft also racked up 68 goals an

He began his professional coaching career as a player/coach in 1959 with the Eastern Hockey League's New York Rovers and then spent the next 20 years with various NHL organizations before joining the Edmonton Oilers in 1981. During those 20 years, Muckler served briefly as head coach of the Minnesota North Stars in 1968-69 and won multiple regular season titles, playoff championships and league coach of the year honors in the minor leagues. 2008-09 Edmonton Oilers Preview NHL Hockey 09/23/2008
(Sportsbooks) - The Edmonton Oilers have surely covered all the bases lately. Two springs ago, the Oilers snuck into the playoffs in the final week, became the first No. 8 seed to topple a No. 1 in the Western Conference tournament and rode an unlikely burst of momentum all the way to a Game 7 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes in the Stanley Cup Finals. Within a month, however, standout Chris Pronger was off to Anaheim via requested trade and a bevy of free agents soon followed the big defenseman to the exit
Oilers name Lowe president, give GM job to Tambellini NHL Hockey 07/31/2008
Edmonton, AB (Sportsbooks) - The Edmonton Oilers shook up their front office on Thursday, promoting former general manager Kevin Lowe to president of hockey operations and naming Steve Tambellini as the new general manager. Lowe, the Oilers' first NHL draft choice in 1979, had been GM of the team since June 9, 2000, helping the team to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2006. He has been a part of the Oilers organization as a player, coach, vice president and general manager for the past 25 years. Tambellini joins

only way teams like the Rangers and a newer franchise like the Florida Panthers would actually develop animosity toward each other. So, in the long run it wasn't worth the effort to try and develop a rivalry between the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Edmonton Oilers, because if one is to emerge, it will happen more quickly when the teams eventually meet in the playoffs. The Oilers are also a good example of a team that had its battles with a familiar playoff opponent effectively end because of the unbalanced sc
