Rockies non-tender Taveras MLB Baseball 12/12/2008
Denver, CO (Sportsbooks) - The Colorado Rockies didn't tender a contract to outfielder Willy Taveras for the 2009 season, meaning he'll be a free agent. Taveras, who turns 27 on Christmas Day, hit .251 in 133 games for the Rockies last season. He also topped the majors with 68 steals. Taveras has spent two seasons with the Rockies since he was acquired from Houston in December 2006. He is a career .283 hitter with seven homers, 109 RBI and 169 steals since breaking into the majors in 2004.

Las Vegas, NV (Sportsbooks) - It appears as if left-handed reliever Alan Embree has found a new home. The Denver Post is reporting that Embree has agreed to a one-year deal with the Colorado Rockies. Embree, who will be 39 when the season starts, appeared in 70 games for the Oakland Athletics last season, posting a 2-5 mark to go along with a 4.96 earned run average. The Rockies will receive two draft picks should Fuentes decline arbitration and sign elsewhere. Fuentes has until midnight (et) Sunday to accept or decline arbitration.
