GT's Thomas left with few doubters in NFL draft NFL Football 04/22/2010
was still in a walking boot when NFL scouts and coaches visited Atlanta for Georgia Tech's pro day on March 15. He finally had a private workout for about 10 teams on Sunday, but he still wasn't able to run a 40-yard dash.

The Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Browns, Atlanta Falcons, New York Jets, Baltimore Ravens and St. Louis Rams were among teams attending the private workout. Thomas went through positional drills and tried to show his right foot is healing.

``It went well,'' Thomas said. ``I did everythi

Network) - The New England Patriots signed defensive lineman Amon Gordon to an undisclosed contract on Wednesday. Gordon last played in the NFL in 2008 with Tennessee. He was in training camp with the Philadelphia Eagles last year but was waived prior to the season. The Stanford product was selected in the fifth round of the 2004 draft by the Cleveland Browns. He played a career-high six games that year. In 13 career contests with the Browns, Ravens, Broncos and Titans, the 28- year-old has logged 29 tackles.

Devaney said quarterback Sam Bradford and defensive tackles Ndamukong Suh and Gerald McCoy remained in the running. He expected to have the team's board stacked by later in the afternoon, and planned to poll scouts and coaches Wednesday.

The Cleveland Browns, who have the seventh pick, are the only team to announce their desire to trade up with St. Louis. Devaney said interest ``hasn't been this massive movement, trust me.''

``I think we've been saying we're open and we remain open,'' Devaney said. ``

being a guy that's in trouble all the time. Dez has never been in trouble.

``Dez is just a guy that has to learn to fit into a system, and he'll be fine once he gets there.''

Mock drafts project Bryant going anywhere from seventh overall to the Cleveland Browns to falling out of the first round. Broncos coach Josh McDaniels defended Bryant's character, bolstering the notion that Denver, which traded away star receiver Brandon Marshall last week, would take him with the No. 11 pick.

``There's a lot of tal

The Cleveland Browns, who have the seventh pick, have approached the Rams about the possibility of trading up. Devaney wouldn't be surprised if the first pick of the second round attracts lots of offers.

``Chances are nothing will happen,'' Devaney said. ``The second

Just a few NFL seasons ago, Roethlisberger posters decorated barbershops and bowling alleys in the middle of Cleveland Browns territory. Fans couldn't get enough merchandise as long as it had Roethlisberger's name, face or No. 7 jersey - magnets, blankets, flags, mugs, hats and clocks.

The Hawks made their QB move when they traded for Charlie Whitehurst, and they'll draft Walter Jones' heir apparent here. (Last mock: Bryan Bulaga, T, Iowa) 7 - Cleveland Browns - C.J. Spiller, RB, Clemson (5-11, 196) - The Browns are one of the real first-round teams to watch, since their acquisition of cornerback Sheldon Brown and edge pass-rusher Chris Gocong from the Eagles seemingly reduced two of their biggest needs.
