Bears begin cuts with Fantuz NFL Football 09/02/2011
Lake Forest, IL (Sportsbooks) - The Chicago Bears began the process of trimming their roster to the required 53 by releasing 14 players on Friday, including former Canadian Football League star receiver Andy Fantuz. Fantuz, last year's Most Outstanding Canadian with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, had signed a reserve/future contract with the Bears last winter. He had two catches during the preseason. Others cut on Friday included guard Johan Asiata, fullback Eddie Williams, wide receiver Onrea Jones, and
Report: Briggs wants out of Chicago NFL Football 09/02/2011
Chicago, IL (Sportsbooks) - Chicago Bears linebacker Lance Briggs apparently wants to be traded. Briggs was quoted by the Chicago Tribune as saying he and his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, have asked the club for the opportunity to explore a deal after the team denied a request for a restructured contract. "The Bears made their decision, now I have to make mine," Briggs told the paper. "It's just how the business works. It's not going to take away from what I do on the field. I'm 100 percent a Bear, until I'm n

eans in last January's NFC Wild Card Playoffs, giving the franchise a bit of vindication after becoming the first division winner ever to post a losing record during the regular season. But what goes up ultimately comes down, and an ugly loss to the Chicago Bears the following week ushered the Seahawks out of the postseason. If their hosting of a first-round playoff matchup was the biggest surprise of the year, than the 'Hawks not-so-shocking exit in Chicago stood at the other end of the spectrum. While Seat

Moala had 26 tackles in 16 starts last season, while Johnson, in his third season, made 26 tackles and recorded a half-sack in 14 games. Harris, entering his eighth year, has registered 28 sacks and 213 tackles in 104 games. He had a career-high ei

signed veteran kicker John Kasay on Tuesday. The transactions were among a slew of moves made by New Orleans to reach the 80-player roster limit. Brown, 32, signed a two-year contract with the Saints in April 2010 after spending eight years with the Chicago Bears. He started all 16 games last season and totaled 39 tackles with a career-low two sacks. The Florida product has appeared in 143 straight games, the longest current consecutive games played streak among defensive ends. He has compiled 528 tackles wi
Bears cut Gholston NFL Football 08/29/2011
Lake Forest, IL (Sportsbooks) - The Chicago Bears waived five players on Monday, including linebacker/defensive end Vernon Gholston. Gholston was cut by the Jets in March following three disappointing seasons with the team. The No. 6 overall pick in 2008, Gholston started only five games for the Jets, including two in 2010. He had 42 total tackles and no sacks in 45 games with New York. Center J.C. Brignone, linebacker Tanner Antle, defensive tackle Tank Tyler and quarterback Trevor Vittatoe were also re
Clark indicates knee injury not as bad as seemed NFL Football 08/28/2011

CHICAGO (AP) - Chicago Bears backup tight end Desmond Clark indicated the knee injury he suffered in Saturday's preseason game against Tennessee wasn't as bad as it appeared to be, posting on Twitter that he's confident he will return soon.

Clark left the field on a cart in the fourth quarter after taking a brutal hit to the left knee from Titans safety Anthony Smith while trying to make a catch. On Sunday, he posted on Twitter, ``Took quite a shot out there but feeling confident I'll be ok and back on

Bears counting on return to form on defense NFL Football 08/26/2011

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) - Chicago Bears coach Lovie Smith rarely rips his team in public, so the shot he sent after that brutal preseason loss to the New York Giants sure did resonate.

He took aim at his defense while talking about the team's health, saying: ``You've got to tackle a little bit better before you start talking about injuries and things like that.''

At least Monday night's 41-13 loss doesn't count.

(2009-10). He has 19 career interceptions and played in all 16 games last season. "He is a veteran who knows how to play. He has been a good physical blitzer and we are in need of someone who can learn quick and go from there," Giants coach Tom Coughlin said. Cornerback Terrell Thomas tore his anterior cruciate ligament during Monday's preseason win over the Chicago Bears. That incident came two weeks after rookie cornerback Prince Amukamara suffered a fracture of the fifth metatarsal bone in his left foot.
Giants also lose CB Witherspoon and DT Austin NFL Football 08/23/2011

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) - Starting cornerback Terrell Thomas wasn't the only New York Giant lost for the season in their preseason game against the Chicago Bears.

Coach Tom Coughlin announced Tuesday that second-round draft pick Marvin Austin and free-agent cornerback Brain Witherspoon are going to need season-ending surgery.

Austin tore a pectoral muscle on his left side and will miss his second straight season. He was suspended by North Carolina last year and was ineligible to play.
